The clockspring is a coil of wire located behind the steering wheel, it allows the steering wheel to turn and still maintain the electrical connection between the steering column and the rotating steering wheel. Certain right hand drive models are being recalled because the circuit inside the clockspring could break. This could result in illumination of the airbag warning light and/or no-deployment of the driver's front airbag in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the clockspring and add a steering wheel dust shield to correct this concern.
2011 Jeep Wrangler Recalls
Right hand drive vehicles, most often used by the Post Office, may be equipped with a steering column mounted clockspring assembly that could experience a compromised electrical circuit resulting in illumination of the airbag warning light. In the event of a crash, if the airbag warning light is illuminated, the driver's airbag may not deploy as expected. Failure of the driver's airbag to deploy increases the risk of personal injury. Dealers will perform the necessary repairs to correct this concern. The Chrysler recall number is L37.
Some vehicles may have been assembled with a missing or incorrectly installed steering column pivot rivet. This could result in a loss of steering capability, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the rivet and repair the steering column as required. This recall is expected to begin during June 2011. The Chrysler recall number is L23.
The fasteners for various front and rear axle attachments may not have been properly torqued during assembly. If they start to loosen, a clunking noise from the suspension may be noted. If left unattended, steering and handling characteristics could degrade, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will re-torque the affected fasteners to correct this issue. This recall is expected to begin during March 2011. The Chrysler recall number is L09.
