Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain 2009-2013 jeep wrangler, chrysler 300, dodge challenger and dodge charger vehicles, and 2009-2011 dodge dakota vehicles sold, or ever registered, in the states of alabama, california, florida, georgia, hawaii, louisiana, mississippi, south carolina, texas, puerto rico, american samoa, guam, the northern mariana islands (saipan), and the u.s. virgin islands or "zone a." additionally, chrysler is recalling certain 2009-2010 ram 4500 cab chassis, ram 5500 cab chassis, ram 3500 cab chassis, jeep wrangler, chrysler 300, dodge dakota, dodge challenger, and dodge charger vehicles ever registered in the states of arizona, arkansas, delaware, district of columbia, illinois, indiana, kansas, kentucky, maryland, missouri, nebraska, nevada, new jersey, new mexico, north carolina, ohio, oklahoma, pennsylvania, tennessee, virginia, and west virginia or "zone b." chrysler is also recalling certain 2009 ram 3500, ram 2500, ram 4500 cab chassis, ram 5500 cab chassis, dodge durango, chrysler aspen, ram 3500 cab chassis, jeep wrangler, chrysler 300, dodge dakota, dodge challenger, and dodge charger vehicles ever registered in the states of alaska, colorado, connecticut, idaho, iowa, maine, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, montana, new hampshire, new york, north dakota, oregon, rhode island, south dakota, utah, vermont, washington, wisconsin, and wyoming. in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these passenger air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.

The passenger frontal air bag assembly is deployed by an inflator which contains propellant that makes the air bag deploy. This propellant may degrade over time, especially when exposed to humidity and temperature cycling. As a result, the inflator may rupture on deployment, which can send metal shrapnel through the air bag, striking vehicle occupants. This could result in serious injury or death.

Recall repairs on your Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or Ram vehicle must be performed by a Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or Ram dealership. Chrysler will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in February, 2018. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or Ram dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is U03.

For right hand drive vehicles: the driver's frontal air bag may fail to deploy as needed during an accident because of an electrical contact issue in the steering wheel. This would increase risk of occupant injury in a crash.

Recalls on your Jeep must be performed by a Jeep dealership. Jeep will notify known owners of affected vehicles (a timetable for this notification is not available as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Jeep dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. Chrysler began notifying owners of affected vehicles in December 2014. You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them.

2008 - 2012 Wrangler models equipped with right hand drive may have a condition where the driver's front airbag may not deploy as expected and/or the airbag warning light may illuminate.

Chrysler will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles during May 2013. If your airbag warning light remains illuminated, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have please contact your dealer. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Chrysler recall number is M31.
