Hello,
The switch for the 4WD transfer cases is a direct connection to the transfer case control module.
Some have found that the wires that make up the pigtail for the switch have degraded, cracked, or separated, causing an open circuit, but others have had to replace the control module for the transfer case at great expense.
By now, the parts are likely much cheaper, considering the original manufacture date is nearly 20 years ago.
A quick scan test of the control module will tell a technician if the module will function under command, or if it is faulty.
Check fuses in the cab and under the hood, and see if you can find degradation in the wire harness before absorbing the cost of repair.
