It seems my negitive wire to my battery has short

(1999 Oldsmobile Alero)

battery has full charge but if i fiddle with the black wire for awhile it will eventually start. Is this expensive to fix and can I do anything till I get it to the mechanic this week?

Remove the neg. cable, FIRST then the pos. and clean both very good may have two cables at pos. term clean both of them also.
Install and tighten pos.FIRST, then install and tighten the neg. LAST. That should fix this.
