Is it recommended that differential fluid be changed every 30,000 miles?

(2010 Chevrolet Express 2500)
in Springfield, IL on March 21, 2013
The dealer's service center recommended and changed our differential fluid for $95 and indicated that it should be serviced every 30,000 miles. I can't find anywhere where it says how ofter it should be changed.

Dealers recommend a lot of things that i disagree with and this is one of them!! Work van? Tow anything? If it were mine 60,000! It just don't break down as much as other conventional lubes do. If you feel better by having it changed by all means do so. Some never get changed but that is not a recommendation by any stretch.

95 is a good price and the dealer will use the right fluid,as a lube guy may use the cheaper brand

Thanks for the answer. Since we couldn't find it in the owners manual we weren't sure if it was an unnecessary add on. We prefer to trust our dealer's service but wanted to make sure.

That is the standard recommendation in our industry. I'd suggest getting a price from an independant service center though as you might save some money.
