Inner outer race support to press the hub into the new bearing

(1990 Volkswagen Jetta)
in Providence, RI on October 16, 2010
NEVER UNDERSTOOD ALL OF THE FUSS OVER BEARING FAILURE IF INNER RACE IS NOT SUPPORTED...I JUST PRESS THE HUB ONTO THE NEW BEARING BY TORQUING DOWN THE AXLE NUT WITH THE SPINDLE INSERTED, AFTER TAPPING THE HUB INTO THE BEARING AS IT SEATS.
TORQUING THE NUT WITH A 1/2 INCH BREAKER BAR PRESSES THE HUB DOWN TO A ZERO SEAT OR VERY CLOSE...GREASING THE HUB SPLINE, AND INNER RACE LIGHTLY HELPS EVERY THING ALONG! OF COURSE I USE A MODIFIED SCHLEGE VW PRESS KIT THAT ALLOWS ME TO DO THE WORK WITH THE BEARING ASSEMBLY ON THE CAR. USING COMPRESSORS ON THE STRUTT SPRING RELIEVES TENSION AND ALLOWS YOU TO SWING THE STRUTT TO DISENGAGE THE AXLE/CV SPINDLE.....
