(1990 Chevrolet 1500 Pickup)
in Orlando, FL on April 23, 2017
replaced engine with slightly used rebuilt motor from a junk yard.they told me it ran when they got it. so iput it in my truck .useing my distrubitor coil pack tbi carb. i've checked timing gets fuel and spark.only back fires i've retimed it several times yesterday 4/23 /17 i sprayed starter fuild in the carb went to start it and it backed fired but it blew my valvue covers off

Pull the number one spark plug out (front plug on drivers side) and put finger over plug hole - then have a helper bump the starter until you feel compression coming up ... Now set crank balancer mark at 0° (TDC) ... Check distributor rotor position ... Should be pointing toward number one plug wire terminal on cap.!! .... IF that is ok- check plug wire firing order very carefully .. V/8 is > 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 > Clockwise ... Very strongly suspect distributor is out of time OR firing order is off!!!
