What would keep a 1999 Pontiac Grand am Ignition Key switch from turning?

The ignition key switch won't turn at all to start my car and ive made sure that the steering wheel wasn't locked and made sure that it was in park. What would keep the ignition switch from turning?

Ignition lock cylinder replacement will likely be required ... Recommend contacting locksmith or mobile mechanic.

Also, do you have another key for the car that is not as heavily used? Perhaps the key has work to the point of no longer working the switch -
