Ignition key not releasing when the gear lever is placed in Park.

(2007 Chevrolet Equinox)
in Mesa, AZ on November 06, 2011
The problem with the ignition key not being released was reported to GM via my dealership last summer (2010) I am yet to get a response as to how to fix the problem. The lock up happens on a regular basis and I have to go thru the motion of moving the gear lever from Park to Drive and back to Park several times before it kicks in an releases the key. I am concerned that one of these days it will NOT release the key and I will have to leave the key in the vehicle. The solenoid at the staring column does not appear to be the problem. I suspect the problem is in the gear lever housing. How can I get this housing off so I can check for potential problem?

Wiring Diagram shows the PRNDL controls ignition lock 12v signal, make sure you have a good ground (black wire)and check for 12v(purple with white) on ignition lock solenoid if both check out A new ignition lock cylinder has been released to correct this concern.
