If engine overheated 3 times can engine be repaired or junking car only option?

(1999 Cadillac DeVille)
Car overheated due to coolant loss while driving. Took in for repairs and each time shop said the car was good to go. Yet it kept overheating on highway. Last time it happened I went to a different repair shop and they said their is internal damage done to engine and can't be repaired. Overall car in mint condition with exception to engine. Wondering, is junking the car the only option?

Check price on good salvage engine.. Installed.. Then check KBB for car value .. If repair cost is beyond car value .. Junk car!

Yes, even if car is in mint condition I guess that is the best advice. I have no idea where to look for salvaged engine? looks as if it time to say good bye after 49,000 miles.

Thanks, letting engine cool down is a given and did that. But was out in the middle of no where. Problem being the auto repair place I took it to ?didn't find the problem after repeat occurrence. I paid for new water pump, hose & clamps and said everything was fine. Another trip a few weeks later checked all fluids; oil and coolant all okay before leaving. Drove a while and the same thing happened again, let it cool added more coolant. Went back to the shop again and they said they tested it under pressure for 2 hours and nothing, telling me again the car was fine, nothing wrong with it. Either they didn't have the proper equipment to do engine diagnostic or didn't know about the Northstar engines? common problems with head gaskets? Still doesn't answer my question....

Will it sit and idle all day long with out problems , but as soon as you are cruising , it starts running hot , until you slow down and let it idle? ..........Suspect old clogged radiator? Was that ever suggested , given the conditions of 'overheating'?

It is something that I did suggest and questions as a possible issue each time I had to take it back to shop
after different repairs and still overheating. Every shop focused on the loss of antifreeze-coolant.

Sorry , coolant loss sounds like a RESULT of the overheating , not the CAUSE. -from your description. Still , worth an answer --, does it sit and idle , without overheating, for as long as you want , and then it will overheat if you try to drive it ???-- Again , if that answer is yes , MY opinion is that it may be a clogged radiator..........good luck either way.

My 2000 Cadillac has the same problem and I'm looking for a solution as well. In my case, I am certain that the coolant loss is not from overheating. And there is no consistency in how it leaks. I can add a gallon of coolant and monitor it over the next couple of days without notice noticing a drop on the driveway .. then a couple of times I have ran an errand came out from the grocery store to find the bright green fluid in a puddle under my car. Most of the time it's slowly leaks out but a few times like I said I have come outside from a store to find a puddle of coolant under the car large enough to be the entire gallon I put in a day or so prior. I started noticing the leak a few weeks ago . .having to add coolant every couple of days and now I'm pretty much putting it in every day to every other day. I am very concerned and interested in a solution.
