I dont know the situation as to why they would have recommended you to just buy a new engine but the repair pal estimator says it will only cost about $414-$566 to repair the oil pump. I would suggest getting a second opinion. Sounds like this person dosnt know what they are talking about unless theres more information they told you that you may have forgotten to mention in your description/question.
