I recently bought a 2000 Kia Sportage EX 4wd. The check engine light came on a day after I got gas. I have taken the cap off and wiped down everything and recapped and clicked it 3 times. Also it is very slow and sluggish starting off if you step on the gas to go from 45 -65 or above it takes forever and RPMs will jump over 5 and it takes forever to shift but it has no power. Can this be a reason for the check engine light. The previous owner replaced the timing belt, spark plugs, water pump, tensioner and tensioner pulley, idler pulley, fan clutch, alternator belt and coolant stop rust and antifreeze.

Code was P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire detected
Was doing some reading and wondered if coil could cause this... its also running hot and almost overheating when idle. And when I take off it lacks compression and power.

If you bought gas with ANY ethanol. You can expect your Kia to start acting up. No power, transmission that will not shift. I owned a Kia for 12 years (2000 Kia Sportage) In the owners manual it states do not use alcohol gas of over 10%, that's NOT true any gas with ethanol will mess this car up. I finally gave the car to my sister and she is very careful where she buys gas, but went to a Quick Trip, put in regular and not it won't go up the hill, no power at all. I spent ton's of money on this car. My advise, buy code reader, clear codes, after changing gas filter and draining out gas, go to a reputable gas station. The Quick Trips and similar stations rip off their customers by putting ethanol in with the regular gas in Iowa to gain more profits. Then buy a gas tester at Amazon. You can put a drop of gas in the tester before you put it in the Kia and it will register any ethanol that may be in the gas. This device says lots of headaches. I went through the wrong gas 5 times, no one I have talked to thinks this is the problem, but I am 100% sure it's your gas.
