I just had a cooling sensor replaced my mechanic said I have to drive it for so many miles for it to pass inspection why is this

I just had my car inspected it would not pass inspection because of a cooling sensor I have the cooling sensor changed but my mechanic said it would not pass until I drive it for 100 miles on them or is this true

When fault code are cleared from the PCM history data is cleared as well. Some of this data includes "Monitors", these are tests the PCM runs to help make sure the emission system is operation properly. Driving the car for a few days should allow these tests to run and the "Monitors" to reset.
