Engine sump, since posting I have investigated more it appears the the water pump has failed, looking in to it more the poly belt runs off the main bearing as per normal but the supercharger runs off a bearing mounted on the water pump housing and uses an electromagnet to engage drive from the rear of the poly belt pulley. In my opinion the engagement of this drive puts side load on the water pump bearing causing the seal to loose tension I have seen other mentions of the pump failing on chat sites I feel that VW didn't consider this when they set this system up.
