How to replace head gasket on my aerostar/ it looks difficult to get to

i was told that it needed new head gasket by mechanic. i'm disable and don't have money to pay for repair. van will no longer crank

It's not a pleasant job, that's for sure. Figure the book time for this job is about 14 hours. You did not mention which engine you have - the 3.0L or 4.0L V6. There are some differences to the tear down, but they take about the same amount of time.

Why do you need a head gasket? It's not very common on either of the two possible engines. What are your symptoms?
