Is it correct that this transmission has a high failure rate... and IF YES, would a replacement transmission have the same high failure rate or have they been improved ?

The transmissions do fail at or near 100K. The cost for the rebuilt transmission for mine was 1400 parts and 400 labor. The car has since been wrecked and I pulled the engine and transmission, it has 13000 miles on it. I'll sell it for 700.
