How do you check the switch to see if is faulty or if its the motor.

(2000 Chevrolet Cavalier)

Will not close it stays in the down position.

Are you speaking of the power window? Basically, either a test light or voltmeter must be used at the motor to check for power. If the motor gets power, and the window does not go up - then the motor is faulty. If the motor gets no power - back test to the switch to check it.
