Q: How do I replace the rear seal in a f-250 diesel 4x4?

I took my truck to the Chevy dearlership and they over filled my oil and now my rear seal is leaking. I have been told that I will have to lift the cab to drop the transmission. Is this true and are there any other options if it is?

First be sure the rear main is leaking. It can be very deceiving as their is a more normal occurrence where oil from a hard to find source runs down and around convincing you that it is the rear main. Mine did this and when I went to the Ford dealer they said they had never actually replaced the seal as it turned out in 100% of cases it was just an oil leak; much cheaper. To change the rear main you have to pull the very heavy transmission which requires a very heavy jack that most shops around here don't have. Check the small thing first. Never take a high quality race horse (Ford) to a goat farmer (Chevy dealer).
