Q: how can my husband fix the esp? on 2002 Mercedes-Benz C240

Rookie cbe0621eac06868b3efe0d8d1d3611e23c60d3114864ea2ec19a68cfbd3eebab
I noticed that my "ESP" showed up on the screen two days ago. It comes on, but it always go off. I don't know why it is showing on the screen. I haven't had that much trouble with it at all. Can I still drive it in this condition? How long can I drive it? How much will it cost to get it repaired. Can my husband repair it? I don't want to take it to a Mercedes Bentz Dealer because they are going to charge me a great deal of money that I don't have. Can anyone recommend something different? Thanks for all of your help. Rose

ESP is Mercedes's stability control system. If the light is on a scan tool is required to retrieve trouble codes stored in the computer in your car. Once the trouble code is retrieved then it will tell the technician what area of trouble shooting to begin with.
Is the warning comes on only at slippery road conditions, like on a wet, icy road, driving on gravel or similar loose road surface?
If the answer is yes, than it's functioning normally. It warns you about the wheels slipped and the ESP kicked in to prevent the car from further slippage.
If the warning comes on for no reason on a dry, normal road surface, your husband won't be able to do much, unless he has the OE Mercedes-Benz diagnostic system, called SDS. It will be needed to check the system for failures.
If he does not have the OE tool, better if you find a MB specialty shop who has.
