How can I get my temp guage to function?

(1997 Dodge Ram 1500)

I have already changed the engine temp sensor and no luck. Anything else?

If you changed the engine temp. SENSOR that was the wrong part. You need to change the temp. SENDING unit.

The parts look the same almost but the one you need sends the temp. reading to the dash gauge.
The other sends it to the computer. Also (I think) the one you need has a grey wire connector.
The other is black with a different size hex for turning.
