How can I be sure I really need new rotors?

You would have to check the thickness of the rotor and the run out.Their are tools to check these measurements. If their is major rust pits on the rotor most likely it would have to be replaced.

You can measure the thickness of the rotor or is there any brake pulsation when braking (vibration).
