Hood release not working...

(2005 Honda Element)
in Iowa City, IA on January 16, 2009
It is VERY cold here and I need to jump our battery. I went to pop the hood but when I pull the hood release, nothing happens. Is this because of the cold?

It could be your hood latch is stuck due to the cold. Try having someone tap on the front of the hood over the latch area with their fist while you are pulling the release cable. If that does not work the cable may be damaged, if that is the case the faulty cable will need to be replaced.

The hood is probably frozen closed. Try tapping around the edges of the hood to break it free, or maybe some warm water around the edges. I have this happen when I'm up in the mountains, and these things normally work.
