1998 Honda Civic Recalls
Honda recalled certain compressed natural gas (CNG) Civic vehicles to add insulation to the rear seat back. In the event of an interior fire, the CNG tank could become compromised due to uneven heating, preventing the pressure relief safety device from functioning as designed. If the tank heats and does not vent the contents, the tank could rupture and explode. Dealers will install the insulation to help protect the tank from uneven heating.
The electrical contacts in the ignition switch may be worn. This may cause the engine to stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the ignition switch to correct this concern. This recall is expected to begin by June 14, 2002.
Honda has recalled certain 1996-1998 Civic accessory floor mats because they could become mispositioned on the floor, causing interference with the accelerator pedal. This could cause the accelerator pedal to stick. Dealers will install a positive floor mat retention system to secure proper fitment of the mats.
Honda recalled certain 1997-1995 Civics due to improper assembly of the cloth flaps that cover the folded air bag. The cloth flaps were found to be tucked in too far, which could prevent proper deployment of the air bag. This could result in an injury in the event of a collision. Dealers will repair the front passenger air bag module.
