High pitched whine when engine is cold

(2003 Hyundai Santa Fe)
in Eastlake, OH on October 03, 2009
I have recently noticed a high pitched whine, acompanied by a definite vibration through the steering column, and a slight shimmy in the front. It abates as the car warms up. Current mileage is 101,000. I have all the original belts yet.

Hello,
Did you find out what was causing the whine noise? Was the power steering fluid level OK?

Most likely you will need to change your belts and tensioners. The belts are probably so loose that they are slipping. I would change them immedietely since major engine damage could occur
