Most new cars use electric actuators to move the temperature and mode doors in the A/C - heater units. Your problem may be related to a malfunctioning temperature door actuator. The A/C control module of your 2000 Chrysler 300M may store fault codes related to the A/C system. retrieving these stored codes using a scan tool may help diagnose the issue you are having with your A/C system.
