Heat and ac vent not working

(1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager)
in Evansville, IN on June 03, 2011
When I turn on the ac the vent don't close off the heat, so I get hot air. My question is what controls the vent to work? How can it be fixed? It is summer and I need the AC.
