Q: grinding noise in front wheel brakes are good on 1997 Ford Explorer

front left wheel making a grinding noise and the hub is full of black carbon, put it up in jack and turned the wheel and makes the noise. brakes are good but the carbon on the hub shows something is not right.

What you are calling carbon sounds like it may be actual brake pad material. Have you removed the brake caliper and inspected each brake pad. if the caliper is off can you feel wheel bearing plat, could you have a bad wheel bearing. 2WD front wheel bearing is a taper wheel bearing easy to adjust/repack/replace if that is the source of your noise. Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website
