General motors is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 chevrolet colorado and gmc canyon vehicles manufactured from november 9, 2009, through august 28, 2012, for failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 113, "hood latch system." the hood may be missing the secondary hood latch.

The hood may open unexpectedly while driving due to a missing secondary hood latch.

General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning January 17, 2013. There may be no symptoms related to this recall. If you see excessive movement of the hood while driving, you should pull over to a safe location and make sure the hood is secure before proceeding. If you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call. The General Motors recall number is 12319.
