I own a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pick up. I need to know where to check the gear oil. It is a 5 speed manual transmission.

I assume you mean the trans fluid?? It is on the case about half way up the housing. the level should be at the level plug area. Be careful, as some of the 5 speeds use ATF for fluid. check with a parts store to confirm the fluid you need. Roy

the plug is located on the right side of transmission , it has a 3/8 ratchet fitting .When you remove the plug you should see the gear oil(amsoil synchromesh recommended for your nv3500) starting to drip out, thats your level. If you put your finger in the orifice and if you cant feel the oil with as much as a 1/3 part of your finger then you should add some.NOTE-Do not use any other kind of oil than the recommended per GM, otherwise you WILL destroy your tranny, the bearings are very sensitive.

I understand this model can have problems for not having enough oil in rear end
missing happens when stopped but does not die, but runs just fine otherwise. I have replaced the EGR valve, o2 sensor, fuel pump/filter, oil sending unit. What else can I try?
