gas gauge is stuck on full every once in a while it will move to empty then back to full.

Commonly caused by a failed in tank fuel level sensor / sending unit - however possibly the gauge.

Recommend instrument cluster scan test - this will include scanner activated functional testing of both components so there is no unnecessary parts replacement.
