Q: Gas Cap Door Won't Open with lever on 2004 Nissan Altima

When I lift the gascap door release lever inside the car, the gas cap door will not open. Near the door, I can hear it trying to open. I can't figure out how to get to it from the trunk. How do I fix this?

The same thing just happened to me and my dad had the answer. I had someone push the gas cap door in toward the car while I pushed the release button in side the car. It worked!
I fixed it by opening the car door, and fixing the cable underneath the doorjam. The plastic piece (runner) pops off. The cable was off there, even though it sounded like the cable was trying to pop the door open by the gas cap door.
Try unlocking the car. Our car got confused if the doors were actually unlocked. This was a safety feature to prevent stolen gas while the car is locked. We unlocked the car again and it opened normally.
