Watch your fuel gauge when you first start the vehicle; the pointer should go back below E and then rise slowly to the actual fuel level. If the pointer does not reset to below E every time you start the vehicle or the pointer is stuck between E and F or is wound around way past Full; then the fuel gauge stepper motor is bad. You pretty much have to check the sending unit and power there...and signal back from the sender. If you have a diagnostic tool, there may be a test to perform there for the gauge.
