Fuel gage

My fuel gage needle does not work. Tank is full but it is registering low fuel. Car has low mileage (42,000) what is the problem?

This is often due to a faulty fuel sending unit, which measures the fill level at the tank and send it to the gauge.

when tank is between 3 quarters and full the gauge goes back and forth alot while sitting still at idle
