The evaporative emission control system has several components. It basically holds onto fuel vapors preventing them from entering the atmosphere. Is it the canister itself that is damaged the purge valve or purge lines that are damaged. On Board Diagnostics 2 monitors the system for leaks and will illuminate the check engine light if it detects a leak.
