Front plate gasket

(1999 Ford F-150)
in Rutledge, TN on May 10, 2011
How do you change the front plate gasket on a 1999 ford f150 4.2? Do have to pull everything off the front of the engine? Do you also have to pull the timing chain? Thanks Jerry

Replacing the timing cover gasket is a labor intensive job. Special care is taken, also, by even experienced techs to make sure that no debris gets into the oil pump. This is something that can easily happen, causing oil pressure loss and engine damage.

Basically everything does get removed to access the cover to remove it cleanly. The chain should not need to be removed as a function of gasket replacement.
