Q: Front brake job on 1999 Ford F-150

I have an EST. of $855 to have a complete front disc brake job. which will be to replace the calipers, machine turn the rotors, add new metallic disc pads, replace the brake hoses and pack the front wheel bearing.
this seems high.Should I shop around?

Sounds like you have been to Midas ? They will sell you everthing , it is because of the Flat rate system . I definatly would not replace all the above if the calipers are good not leaking , the rotors are fall off , machining is required as to insurance , but at times , not even nessasary , a good sanding works as well if the rotors are not damaged or too shy of material . Take it to a local school votec center , they will do it for free , minus parts . it helps with hands on training for our future mechanics ! John
i was told the right caliper was sticking and it was not good to change just one. As for the hoses i was told they were old and should be replace. I think I need to go to someone else. I just had my back brakes done and I was hit up for $711 it was a spring kit rear drums ( drums were bad) and brake pads.
Looks like I am being taken for a ride.
thanks for your response.
Yes, you should shop around. It does seem a bit high.

But -- what are you replacing calipers and hoses for anyway? Curious...seems like you're replacing "everything"...
i was told the right caliper was sticking and since i have to change one I should have the other changed. As for the hoses they are suppose to be bad. But not leaking. you are right they want to change evrything. sound like I amd been taken for a ride .
I had my rear brakes replaced last month and it cost $711 replaced drums pads and spring kit.
