On March 1, 2018, Ford recalled 2,100 Ford Taurus. Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 ford taurus vehicles equipped with mechanical key ignition systems. the keys for these vehicles may be able to be removed from the ignition when transmission is not in the park position. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 114, "theft protection."

The keys may be able to be removed from the ignition key cylinder without the vehicle's shift lever securely shifted into the park position. This could allow the vehicle to roll away inadvertently when leaving the vehicle, if the vehicle's transmission shift lever is not shifted into the park position, and the keys are removed accidentally. A vehicle rolling away could result in an accident or injury.

Recall repairs on your Ford must be performed by a Ford dealership. Ford will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in March, 2018 If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ford dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Ford recall number is 18C02.

The heat shield for the steering gear may detach due to its fasteners corroding. If this happens, the steering gear could overheat, increasing steering effort required by the driver. This could result in an accident.
