Failure of the o/d switch to remain in operation

(1999 Ford Ranger)
in Manville, NJ on March 09, 2011
The o/d switch fails to remain operative even after the fuse and the gear handle replacement package have been swapped out for new. Is the problem electrical or in the transmission?

I think it's safe to say you should have the transmission checked for a possible problem - probably electrical related to the transmission.
