Every few days my pickup won't start.

(2005 Toyota Tacoma)
in Oklahoma City, OK on January 27, 2011
Every now and then my pickup won't start. It doesn't even make a noise. I was told by one guy I need a new starter. Another guy said it sounds like a heating problem. It will start in second gear by popping the clutch. And sometimes wating 15 minutes and it will start.

A common problem and cause of intermittent no start is the starter solenoid fails. The contacts and plunger are available separately at a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire starter. Next time it wont start put the truck in neutral, apply the hand brake get a friend to turn the key to start position and locate the starter, hit the starter with mild force if the engine cranks over the starter solenoid is bad.
