Engine light on after clutch work

(1990 Honda Accord)
in Washington, DC on October 22, 2010
the engine light came on a day after Midas replaced the clutch master, clutch slave and clutch kit. they did a lousy job after charging me over $700 dollars for labor. I had to return it the first time after the car wouldn't start. They finally fixed the clutch. then the engine light came on. they said code 6 was indicated. however, after checking it, they said there was nothing wrong and I should ignore the engine light. now the car is taking a long time to start. this has all happened within days apart. what would you suggest I do now?

Ignore the engine light?!

Wow. I always cringe when I hear stories like this. My suggestion is to speak with the shop manager about your situation. Allow him an opportunity to help. If no satisfaction is received, you will need to take it to another trusted facility. Once you have a proper diagnosis, you may have recourse with the original shop. Keep it professional and factual, and hopefully you will have success.

Good luck.

Thank you. That's just the answer I needed. So far I have kept calm and professional. I've listened to all their excuses. Now I'm doing research and I have another mechanic I plant to contact who can hopefully help. I should have gone to them first, but I thought repair pal was a good source. I guess sometimes you have to learn thru process of elimination.

Gathering information certainly never hurts building your confidence and knowledge base and helping you learn about something you normally wouldn't research. You are doing the right thing. I'm hopeful that the shop will be reasonable or will stand by their work. Coincidences DO happen, but...not as often as not.
