Timing belt less than 2 yrs old. Tried to line up timing marks but motor hangs up near that point. will not move unless I move it back and forth and then it slips by the mark. Don't remember this happening when I replaced the belt. Belt looks ok. No teeth missing. Tension seems ok. Timing marks look like they line up. No compression on 2&4 cyls. 1&3 normal. Removed valve cover. Valves seem to be intact. Pistons ore movin up & down. Help!

Briefly. Ford engineers put in exhaust valves that are only slightly larger than the holes which they operate for in the head. These are notorious for dropping down on the piston and jamming everything up with the resulting broken metal pieces. To fix the engine, have the whole engine fluxed to remove all the metal fragments, replace the piston and it's rings, and install a new head which has been modified by a qualified machine shop that will use the procedure designed by a mechanic in Florida, which is available online. The last step can be done to avoid the inevitable valve failure in the first place. FYI- 2.0 engine owners-do a compression test to see which cylinder is showing the wear; usually #4. A $250 correction job on a running engine beats the over $1000 and the time and trouble a failure on the road will be.

Thanks for the info. #2&4 cyl has no compression. Removed rocker arms to these and still had no compression. Car isn't worth enough to to tear down & repair. Goin car shopping!
