Q: Driver's side steering gear boot is busted. What do I do? on 2001 Subaru Outback

Can I just replace the boot or does steering linkage have to be replaced too?

If it is leaking replace the steering rack assembly. Boot is not supposed to have fluid in it! If just torn replace the boot.
I'll go back and check it out again, but I believe there is no leaking, just a torn boot.
Thanks, appreciate the help.
if it is the cv boot you are talking about the best thing to do would be to replace the cv shaft ,depending on how long the boot has been torn
No, it's not the CV boot, they're in good shape (replaced last year). It's the longer, skinnier boot on the steering linkage. Thanks
