Sounds like the parts store gave you the wrong belt Autozone has a repair guide available online and its free just sign up and put in your vehicles info and click on engine mechanical
As "hemicuda" said: maybe you got the "wrong belt". How close does the new "wrong belt" match up to the old belt? Many auto parts stores buy parts from off-shore manufacturers which may be made to less stringent tolerences than OEMs. A very well known example is that of brake discs.
