im having that same problem now on my 98. there's an 'open' in the wire somewhere in the harness. (sometimes the wire can get pinched right where your door closes) i pulled off the trim along the drivers side, and couldn't find the problem spot. but when i ran a NEW wire directly from the door lock/unlock relay (located above rear drivers side wheel well) right to the door lock switch (my old wires were pink w/green stripe and pink w/orange stripe) it works just fine. so i just ran the new wire along the path of the original harness under all the trim, and soldered the wire together right before the switch.
