Do I have to change my fuel pump just to replace the fuel level sensor?

I have a 2006 chevy malibu 2.2L, 4 cylinder Code PO463

no but it would be wrong to replace one without the other. it is a module assembly. you can purchase the sender by itself but the additional labor offsets the cost difference.

by the way, did the shop do a sweep test of the dash unit and check all the connections before coming to this conclusion??

no they didn't, they wrote up an estimate of $1300.00 to replace fuel pump with sensor.

we do them for 600-800. you should shop around for a better price.
