Check engine light

(1999 Ford Explorer)
in Urbandale, IA on December 27, 2010
I have had the check engine light on for sometime now and finally broke down and took the vehicle in to have it looked at. They ran the diagnostics and said they couldn't see what it was, pulled the plugs to see if there was a mixture of antifreeze in there (said would be a milky color)??? Couldn't find anything but said since the antifreeze overflow was slowly draining it "probably" was a head gasket and quoted me some god awfull price, just didn't sound right

Head gasket issues are not at all common with this engine... Which one do you have - the OHV or SOHC?

since the CEL was on, do you have a list of the codes present, and what kind of symptoms were you having ?
