Car wont run

(1999 Chevrolet Cavalier)
I thought my battery went dead but I cleaned the cables. When I went to start it, it started and all the lights came on, on the dash and the car turned off. This happened once before and I just cleaned the cables. Whats going on here.

If you disconnected the battery, then you may have reset the idle adaption. Try starting it a few times and then using the throttle to keep it idling and the computer may adapt and adjust the idle speed accordingly.
