Shaking and shuttering can be caused by mechanical (engine related, a large vacuum leak, burned valve ect....) spark related (loss of ignition due to bad spark plug, bad plug wire bad distributor cap or failed coil in the case of DIS ignition) or it could be fuel related, a fuel injector could have failed or is not being triggered to fire by the computer.
