Car shutting of while driving

(1999 Pontiac Grand Am)
in St. Louis, MO on June 15, 2010
I have found several threads about this, but none seem to pin anything down. Basically, the other day, my car just shut off right in front of my house. I was leaving for Florida in another vehicle that day, so I had a friend take it to a mechanic. When he drove it to the mechanic for me, it shut off twice in the 10 mile drive. That means in 11 miles, it shut down 3 times. He didn't seem confident when he guessed that it could use a tune up. I googled it and found someone that said replacing the crank shaft sensor should do the trick. He changed it out, and I drove it home the 10 miles no problems. The next morning I drove 8 miles to work - no problem. I think drove it to my son's day care, another 10 miles, and it shut down about a mile before I got there - so now it has only shut down once in 30 miles, which is odd especially because he said it would start happening more frequently if I didn't get the sensor replaced. However, obviously that wasn't the problem. I drove the 10 miles home after it shut off and again, it didn't shut off.

I have also noticed that the car has been stalling when hitting the gas, it doesn't "get up and go" any more, it dogs it.

Any ideas??
