Can't Fold Front Seats Forward

(1995 Audi Cabriolet)
in Albany, CA on February 10, 2011
Lifting up the latch on the side of the seat won't unlatch the seat-back so I can fold it forward and get into the back seat. Not a huge problem since I normally drive it alone, but....makes the back seat useless! Is this an adjustment I can fix? Or is it likely a broken part I can fix? I have no idea where to start.

Thanks for any help.

Wire needs to be pulled tight. Remove seat panel from back side to access.

It's internal. An upholstrey shop could repair this.

You can release the catch manually reaching behind at the door side base and feeling for the metal latch plate while simultaneously lifting or having someone lift the regular release on the seats upper side. I have been doing this for many years as I generally don't have passengers there and use the back seat mainly for luggage, shopping, etc.
