Can't depress accelerator pedal

(2000 Chrysler 300M)
A few weeks ago when I tried to start the car it wouldn't turn over. I had just replaced the battery a few days before. When trying to figure out what to do I noticed that I could not depress the accelerator pedal. Its not that is was hard to oush down..it was like something was firmly blocking it. After waiting a few minutes and jiggling the pedal I could push it down. The car immediately started fine. The same thing has happened several time since then. Sometimes the engine will almost turn over but it makes a grinding sound. I haven't really heard anything like it. Whenever I have problems starting, the accelerator pedal can't be depressed. If I'm not having the problem it starts right up..no unusual noises. It runs fine once its started. Any ideas? Thanks

Inspect the Throttle cable for kinks or damage. if it is ok, The throttle body is a candidate for cleaning. The carbon buildup "coking" from combustion gases caused the thottle plate to stick and requires some effort to open usually sitting overnight. This coking also blocks air flow past the throttle plates making the engine hard to start or causes the engine to stall when releasing your foot off the accelerator pedal as when comming to a stop.
